A FREE mini-festival of theatre, music and comedy by artists and companies with and without disabilities.
(Fully wheelchair accessible and British Sign Language interpreted)
DISCO DISCO is a new company of artists with learning disabilities, born out of Club Soda in Croydon, and now led by Drunken Chorus. To celebrate the launch of DISCO DISCO, we have invited some of our favourite artists and companies to perform in a two-day extravaganza of work that defies category, confounds expectation and smashes barriers!
The event is headlined by Touretteshero & Captain Hotknives. On Thursday 21st September we’re partnering with Improbable to host a Devoted & Disgruntled Satellite Event on networks in the disability arts sector. And on both evenings we’ll have a bar run by the fantastic Ignition Brewery (beer brewed by people with learning disabilities!).
Thursday 21 September 2017 2-7pm: DEVOTED & DISGRUNTLED Satellite
An afternoon of talks and discussions about new and existing networks for organisations and artists with disabilities, presented in partnership with the Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy Programme. Join us to discover what support networks exist, what’s missing and what needs to be developed. We’ll have introductory talks, including key speaker Fiona Slater (Unlimited / Shape), followed by a D&D open space discussion led by Improbable, and winding down with a beer-tasting session with Ignition Brewery (beer brewed by adults with learning disabilities).
1.45pm: Registration, coffee & tea 2pm: Introductory talks from Drunken Chorus, Unlimited, Croydon Council 2.30pm: Devoted & Disgruntled 6-7pm: Beer Tasting with Ignition Brewery, plus snacks by Byte Cafe (TMRW)
Friday 22 September 2017 4-6.30pm: WORKSHOP with DISCO DISCO and Drunken Chorus
Join Drunken Chorus and DISCO DISCO for a relaxed and fun workshop for artists with or without disabilities. The workshop will explore some of the techniques used to create material for DISCO DISCO’s performances at A Bit Of A Do, including absurd party dances, singing animals and surreal improvisation.
