The Great Escape aims to help rising acts break into new markets in other countries - as well as give festival fans a taste of what's to come in new bands tents over the coming summer.

Now in its second year, more than 100 gigs will take place in around a dozen venues throughout Brighton City Centre. Last year, relative unknowns such as The Sunshine Underground and Tapes'N'Tapes kicked off their summers in the seaside town.

Organisers hope to emulate the success of the American festival SXSW and The Netherlands' EuroSonic, which both act as live showcase platforms for breaking artists as well as networking weekends for the music business.

There will be talks, interviews and seminars with leading figures from the industry. Despite the event's 'industry' nature, thousands of tickets will be made available to music fans and bought on a per-gig basis or as an all-encompassing festival ticket.less
