About The Wickerman Festival 2007
Inspired by the 1973 horror movie of the same name, the Wickerman is a family-friendly festival that doesn't take itself
too seriously and is, deliberately, all about the atmosphere. Organisers have even admitted to being a bit 'amateurish' at
times, but when people keep coming back and having fun, who cares?!
Born from a desire to recreate the counter-culture
vibe of festivals from a bygone era, the Wickerman is fast becoming a haven for those festival goers disillusioned with the
commercialism of larger events.
It was established in 2002 and now stretches over 120 acres of prime Galloway grazing
land at East Kirkcarswell Farm, Dundrennan, headed up by its infectiously enthusiastic landowner, James Gilroy.
The
festival features two main stages, a world music and funk tent, the Eden Zone, a classic Jamaican reggae sound system, acoustic
village, scooter tent, children's area, workshops, beer tent, crafts, camping and, of course, not forgetting the 30 foot Wickerman,
which is sacrificed to the festival gods on the Saturday night.
