About Sunrise Celebration 2008
Sunrise Celebration is run entirely on renewable energy and is set to return with more steam then ever in 2008. The festival
is one of the leading sustainable events in the UK and its achievements were recognised when organisers won 2006 Shelter Award
for social responsibility at the UK Festival Awards.
The site resembles a giant mandala with 13 areas housing live
acts and DJs, talks, workshops, a healing village and a children's area. At the centre of the site is the Sacred Heart area
where there are no performances merely 'beingness'. Music and performances are chosen by groups like Fish Seeks Bicycle, ID
Spiral, EartHeart and Tribal Earth.
Organisers of the gathering have been involved with Glastonbury for years and
the alternative culture event resembles the early days of the Pilton event. Sunrise enforces an organic food and drink policy
on stall holders, encourages recycling and uses compost toilets.
It just goes to show that having fun doesn't have
to cost the Earth...
