Chapel Club

Chapel Club featured in many of last year’s Ones To Watch as well, but rather than rush into anything, they’ve played the long game, releasing a series of excellent singles and building their way up the gig ladder gradually. Having ridden the European festival circuit and appeared on Jools Holland this year, now the time seems right.
While many reviews have seen comparisons to the likes of Editors and White Lies – and certainly fans of those bands will find much to like here – they seem to resemble more a modern version of 80’s indie heroes Echo And The Bunnymen, or a decidedly lower-pitched Wild Beasts.
Lewis Bowman’s baritone can titillate, such as on debut single ‘Surfacing’, taunt (‘O Maybe I’), and hiss (listen to way he spits out “You liar, you coward, you snake” on free download ‘The Shore’), as the band veer wildly from sinister to celebratory. If you need more drama in 2011, here’s where you’ll find it.
