White Lies – Leeds Festival 2011 review

White Lies at Leeds Festival 2011 - review. We want your reviews too!

Drawing comparisons to Joy Division, Editors and Interpol, White Lies were never going to be an excuse to ditch the wellies and go for a carefree crowd surf, but the amount of well-known hits for the uninitiated is a surprise.

Their brooding indie post-punk is full of charm and dripping with the emotion of a heartbreak or two. The fact that they pull the second stage’s biggest mob of the day is only partly down to effortlessly cool singles like ‘Bigger Than Us’ and ‘Strangers’

Of course, much of this chanting, throbbing horde are here merely passing the time until “Our Kid” and the Beady Eye boys swagger on.

The tension is palpable, and while White Lies reach the finish line with a fine performance, talk has already turned to the new Oasis.
