Spotlight: Best Rock Act of 2007?

Every day for the next few weeks we'll be profiling a category from the UK Festival Awards, taking you through some of the nominations and generally explaining what each particular award is all about.

Best Rock Act (in associaton with Carling)

Rock ‘n’ roll used to be known as the Devil’s music, however recent reports suggest Satan is more into swing these days.  And since rock acts have been able to perform without fear of being burned at the stake at festivals, its typified sound has diversified into several incarnations of the genre.

This means that the Best Rock Act could’ve included anybody from Aerosmith to Zico Chain.  But our stringent team of selectors have whittled the list down to the top ten bands that have produced first-rate performances at more than one festival this year.

Everybody was talking about The Gossip at the start of the summer season but have the band with an omnipresent Beth Ditto striptease been enough to woo your vote their way?

Perhaps her fellow Americans The Killers deserve the coveted prize after rocking hard at Glasto and V with their Mormon moustaches in tow? Their Pentecostal counterparts Kings of Leon proved at the Carling Weekend why they are high in the running too.

Nu-Rave pioneers Klaxons showed what a difference a year makes in music after their Mercury Prize victory last month, but will they outdo the awards’ previous winners Arctic Monkeys

For those who like it heavier or cleverer Gallows, Biffy Clyro and Arcade Fire have all made the shortlist.  Has Frank Gallows’ onstage antics swayed your Swingometer?  Maybe Biffy have beaten you in to submission, or has Arcade Fire’s intelligent anthemic art-rock got you thinking that maybe you should vote for them.

With a headline gig at Wireless and a secret show at Leeds Festival it could be down to Kaiser Chiefs to pick up the gong, unless Leicester rock monsters Kasabian have swaggered enough to grab your vote.

The full list of contenders is below and, since it took us so long to shortlist a mere ten bands, this category should be one of the closest and hotly contested.  Make your vote count HERE.

Arcade Fire
Arctic Monkeys
Biffy Clyro
