During a late night 12-inch trade off, under the amber glow of Gilles Peterson's whirring studio equipment, Thom Yorke nodded towards a Radiohead tour in 2012. Could festivals be on the (House Of) Cards too?
Those into the outer reaches of space jazz, brain-feeding warp dub, flurrying Radiohead re-edits and other essential school night insomnia listening, may have picked up on Yorke’s gig plans disclosure. From the media response so far, it’s all gone a little Brian Harvey.
For those that didn’t tune in, he told the Radio 1 man something like: “I want to […] stay focused on getting it together to go out on tour with Radiohead next year.” And that’s it settled then.
Recent Radiohead tour dates have always ended up with at least one festival show so don’t expect anything dissimilar. Radiohead are easy ones to read you see; they never drop anything unexpectedly.
So where can we expect them to play? There’s no Glastonbury to return to and Reading and Leeds 2012 rumours suggest they’ll miss out on the Bank Holiday weekender too. Plus it’s possibly been too soon since their last outing there.
Isle Of Wight Festival 2012 organiser John Giddings has said he’d happily have the band on the Garden Isle, V Festival has served them well in the past and vise versa, while Bestival 2012 might even have the clout after recent headliner successes.
