New site layout for Download

Download is to move to nearby Donington Park this year in a move designed to improve the festival for fans.

The rock festival is leaving its historic home within the famous Donington Racetrack to ease up access between the three main stages.

Vowing to make the festival experience better for fans, organisers consulted a panel of forum fans at a recent meeting who helped rubber stamp the changes.

For the first time, Download goers will be treated to an open air Second Stage, giving more fans a chance to enjoy bands like Simple Plan, Ash and HIM.

The Main Stage will be shifted to within a natural, tree-lined amphitheatre, meaning there will now be no one-way system, giving quicker and more direct access to the three stages.

The new layout will also incorporate more hard standing areas than previous years have allowed, in a bid to reduce mud and dust. All car parking will now be within the Donington Park site.

Organisers were forced to look at what Donington Park had to offer when they realised that Download 2008 would clash with the build up to the forthcoming Grand Prix.

A source said: "This has given organisers the perfect opportunity to make key changes to benefit all customers and fans of Download."
Other suggestions made on the Download Festival forums suggested more seating on site, better facilities for the carers of disabled festival-goers in the disabled campsites plus ways of dealing with overcrowding on the disabled platform, plus the cup recycling scheme to be extended to plastic bottles.

"All of this – as suggested by fans of the festival – has been taken into consideration and will be going ahead for this year", added the spokesman.
More than 20 bands have recently been added to the line up. They are Finger Eleven, Stone Gods, Saxon, Fall Of Troy, From First To Last, Big Linda, The Haze, Between The Buried And Me, Galvatrons, Last Supper, Beat Union, Blackhole, Rolo Tomassi, Malefice, Fighting With Wire, Mexicolas, Caimbo, Glamour Of The Kill, Cry for Silence, Sons Of Albion, Voodoo Six and Army Of Freshmen.
