Metallica to headline Download Festival 2012 line-up?

It looks like Metallica, who have been rumoured as Download Festival 2012 headliners on VF for some time, will be confirmed for the event this evening (Thursday).

Organisers have revealed that Zane Lowe will make the first Download 2012 announcement on his Radio 1 show at 7.20pm, which coincides with drummer Lars Ulrich appearing as a guest on the programme.

The festival’s booker, Andy Copping, confirmed the news on his Twitter. He tweeted: “Just one big fuck off headliner tomorrow but with a killer twist…I look forward to the meh’s … I miss them.”

The twist could be a Lou Reed guest slot as part of their show performing tracks from ‘Lulu’, a recent collaborative album between Metallica and Reed.

Other Download Festival 2012 rumours include Black Sabbath, who are expected to make an reformation announcement on Friday (11 November), as well as Van Halen.
