Manic Street Preachers are to headline the NME stage at V2002 at Weston Park, Staffordshire and Hylands Park, Chelmsford on 17th and 18th August 2002, having been added at the last minute following Travis' withdrawal from the line-up.
The Manics will be joining V Stage headliners fellow Welsh rock giants Stereophonics and UK beatmasters, Chemical Brothers on the bill.
The Manics are taking to the NME stage as a warm-up for their Greatest Hits tour in December, celebrating their 13 year history, with 27 Top 40 hits including ‘Design For Life’, ‘Motorcycle Emptyness’ and ‘Everything Must Go’. A Greatest Hits album, ‘Forever Delayed’, is due on 28th October, preceded by the release of the Manics Street Preachers’ first single in over a year on October 14th, so expect to relive the best Manics’ moments at V2002. A single title and album tracklisting are due to be announced shortly. A book of exclusive Manics images, also entitled ‘Forever Delayed’, will also be released around the album, photographed by their longtime visual accomplice Mitch Ikeda.
V2002 Festival Director, Bob Angus commented:
“We’re really pleased to have secured the performance of such a high profile headliner for the NME Stage this year. The Manic Street Preachers are one of the UK’s most important bands and top off the bill very nicely, alongside the other major Welsh rock band, Stereophonics who headline the V Stage. V2002 is all set to be the best V festival yet. I’m looking forward to it!”
V2002 Festival Director, Simon Moran added:
“The Manic Street Preachers headlined V’99 and it’s great to welcome them back for V2002. It’s given V a bit of a Welsh theme, with both Stereophonics and the Manics, two of Wales’ biggest exports headlining stages at the festival! With the likes of Chemical Brothers, Sugababes, Badly Drawn Boy, Ian Brown, David Holmes and Beverley Knight performing, there’s something their for everyone at V2002.”
