Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition

The eight finalists in this year’s Emerging Talent Competition, hosted by Glastonbury Festival, have been announced today.

The eight names have been cut down from a longlist of 120 by a group of online music writers from around the UK, who chose their selections from thousands of entries.

But which of the eight artists in the Soundcloud player below will you see on this year’s Glastonbury Festival line-up?

Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis said: “Once again, we’ve been impressed by both the quality and quantity of new music out there in the UK and Ireland, with thousands of talented acts entering this year’s competition. It was extremely tough to narrow the 120 acts on the longlist down to 8 finalists, but we’re really pleased with the group of acts we’ve ended up with. I can’t wait to see them play at the live finals.”

All eight performers will appear at this year’s live final on Saturday 9th April where the eventual winners will be named. Winning artists will perform on one of the main stages at this year’s festival and will also be awarded a £5,000 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize, to help take their songwriting and performing to the next level. Two runners-up will also each be awarded a £2,500 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize.

Last year’s Emerging Talent Competition winner Declan Mckenna was only 16-years-old when he won the competition and got his chance to play the festival last summer. His first single, the self-released ‘Brazil’, reached number three on the Alt 18 Countdown and he’s slated to play Great Escape Festival and Field Day this year.

Glastonbury Festival 2016 will take place this summer from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset.

Glastonbury Festival 2016 tickets have now sold out. Any tickets that are returned unpaid by ticket-holders this spring will go back on general sale sometime (still to be confirmed) in April.
