Flaming Lips Explode at Move Festival!

Manchester's Move Festival kicked off to a glorious, sun-drenched start... Is it a festival? Is it a concert? Who cares - it's one of the most enjoyable and laid back events in the land...

[r-zone1]With the sun blazing down on our necks, being here seems as much an excuse to laze around in the sun, eating and drinking with friends as it is to watch bands performing! There’s no chance of losing anyone at a random, far flung stage as there is only one. There’s no mud as the floor is covered and there are comfy seats a plenty courtesy of the bleachers at the cricket ground. All that’s missing is a nice waiter to take your orders for drinks and bring them to you. Maybe next year…

[l-zone2]Still, we have been treated to some fine entertainment so far from the likes of Kinesis, The Mars Volta, Super Furry Animals, Manic Street Preachers (yesterday), The Bees, Puressence, Inspiral Carpets, Dave Gahan and Feeder (today). Whilst we eagerly await the arrival on-stage of The Charlatans, the surefire highlight so far was yesterday’s appearance by the Flaming Lips. Fresh from their wildly received Glastonbury show, their set here was as uplifting as it was theatrical.

Tomorrow sees local heroes John Squire and Badly Drawn Boy on a bill headed by kings of the outdoor stage – R.E.M
