Fancy Yourself As A Festival Film-Maker?

Or just want to actually remember this year's Carling Weekend? A brand new competition is giving you the chance to do both. Ten lucky winners will be given a camcorder to record your experience at Reading or Leeds...

Organisers behind the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals are on the hunt to find the nation’s biggest festival enthusiasts, with 10 lucky winnners getting to make their own movie of everything they experience over the August bank holiday weekend.

The footage will be previewed on the Main Stage screens on the Sunday night in front of thousands of festival-goers. It will also be uploaded on to the official festival websites, edited in to a mini film to be premiered at the launch of next year’s festivals and could even appear on BBC 3 as part of their festival coverage.

The lucky winners can portray their whole 72 hour festival adventure, starting the moment they leave their house, right through to the very end, whilst capturing the exhilaration of seeing their favourite bands, the trauma of the campsite toilets, the dodgy burgers, the fitties in the tent next door, the laughter, the fun – a true representation of the festivals as told through the eyes of the fans.

Melvin Benn, Director of Mean Fiddler said: “We are thrilled to announce this joint initiative with Carling. For the first time festival goers will be able to record and show their experiences of the festival directly to thousands of people at the festival, over the internet and on national TV.”

Budding film-makers can enter the competition by logging onto one of the festival websites –, or – and entering a 100 word treatment detailing what it means to them to be at one of the greatest festivals ever created. Festival organisers will then pick and notify winners in advance of the festivals.

Winners must be 18 years or over and must be passionate about the festival. Click on the links below for more info on both festivals.
