Festival-goers travelling to and from Reading Festival by train could be affected by planned engineering and improvement works in the area this weekend.
A normal timetable will be in place between Wednesday 24 and Saturday 27 August, but on Sunday 28 August, anyone wanting to get to London Waterloo, Redhill or Gatwick Airport from Reading station will need to use a replacement bus service.
Buses will operate every half an hour from 5:42am until 11:12pm between Reading and Wokingham, where you can catch a connecting train.
All other services will run as normal.
On Monday 29 August, as in previous years, boarding controls and a queuing system will be in place at Reading station until 1pm.
Passengers who have booked themselves on a specific train have been advised by operators First Great Western to arrive at least 2 hours before their departure time as they will have to join the queue.
A normal Saturday service will run on Monday, with several additional services running to Paddington, plus:
– An additional 4:34am service to Gatwick Airport (first train)
– An additional 5:07am service to Redhill (stopping service)
– An additional 6:41am service to Birmingham New Street and the north (first train).
The news comes as it was revealed people travelling to sister event Leeds Festival 2011 by train may be affected by a proposed rail strike.
My Chemical Romance, The Strokes, Pulp and Muse headline Reading and Leeds 2011, which take place from 26–28 August.
