In an exclusive UK festival booking for 2016, The Who will headline the Saturday night of this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.

The Baba O’Reilly rockers are the final headline acts to be confirmed for the festival, joining Queen + Adam Lambert who headline the Sunday night and co-headliners on the Friday night, Stereophonics and Faithless.

The Who played both editions of the iconic The Isle of Wight Festival in 1969 and 1970, and they last played the revived event back in 2004.

Playing the island festival this time as part of their ‘The Who Hits 50!’ tour, the band are marking their 50th anniversary with tour celebrating some of their biggest hits, including ‘I Can’t Explain’, ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ and Who Are You’.

Festival chief John Giddings said: “The Who are part of the fabric of The Isle of Wight Festival, and it’s great to welcome them back to the island as part of their ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations. We’re proud to have a line up of home-grown headliners to help celebrate our own 15th anniversary and ensure that this year delivers yet another unforgettable weekend of music.

Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft has also been confirmed as a special guest, playing just ahead of The Who on the Saturday, performing tracks from his new solo album ‘These People’ alongside seminal tunes from his time with The Verve.

The Who and Richard Ashcroft join an Isle of Wight Festival line up that already features Iggy Pop, Adam AntTwin Atlantic, The Wonderstuff, BustedThe Cribs, The Kills, Sigma and The Corrs.

Isle of Wight Festival returns to Seaclose Park, Newport for its 15th edition on the great Island from Thursday 9 – Sunday 12 June, 2016, offering up four nights of live music and much more besides.
