Black Sabbath to headline Download 2012?

Speculation grows over the Download Festival 2012 headliners as Black Sabbath are linked with the festival headline slot.

After our reports that Black Sabbath are expected to announce their reformation today (Nov 11) we’ve had a further hint from Download Festival organiser and booker, Andy Copping, via his tweeter feed that the band might be announced for the festival later today. Last night he tweeted:

“There is another headliner being announced tomorrow.”

The timing of these two announcements could be purely coincidental but insider sources have informed Virtual Festivals that Black Sabbath are to make their UK return with their original line up at Download Festival next summer, the festival they last played together in 2005.

The four members have organised a ‘special event’ at Hollywood’s Whisky A Go Go Club with the announcement coming at 11:11am local time, or 7:11pm GMT.

We’ll of course be following the story live, so follow Virtual Festivals on Twitter and Facebook for the latest information as it breaks.

Last night Metallica were confirmed as the first headliner for Download festival 2012 to play their 1991 classic ‘black album’ in full.

Download Festival 2012 tickets will go on sale on Friday 18 November at 9am
