The somerset-born comedian will perform a mainstage stand up performance on the Sunday night of the festival before Slipknot's headline slot.
Bill Bailey will perform his own brand of surreal musical comedy after Limp Bizkit play and before a headline performance from Slipknot on the Sunday night of Sonisphere 2011.
The comedian shot to fame in the late nineties with performances in sitcoms Spaced and Asylum before going on to appear in Black Books and Hot Fuzz.
Bill Bailey has previously appeared at Beautiful Days, Glastonbury, Latitude, and Big Chill Festival, and has released six stand up DVD’s and played sold out shows at Wembley Arena and o2 Arena.
Sonisphere creator Stuart Galbraith said in a video posted on NME’s website yesterday that he has booked Bill Bailey to entertain fans at the Hertfordshire stately home this summer. The video has since been taken down.
On Twitter, the comedian who has previously done routines about Slayer, Kraftwerk and U2 tweeted on Thursday: “it looks like I will headline the Saturn Stage at @Sonisphere this year. m/ that is all. will confirm tomoro”
Jackass star Stevo-O will also perform his debut UK stand up performance over the weekend, headlining the comedy line up on the Bohemia stage. Andrew O’Neill, Bob Slayer, Jason John Whitehead, Jason Rouse and Jim Breuer will also perform stand up sets accross the weekend.
Sonisphere 2011 returns to Knebworth House, Hertfordshire from 8-10 July.
Biffy Clyro, Slipknot, and for the first time together on British soil, ‘the Big Four’ – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax wil be headlining the festival.
Weezer and You Me At Six will also perform across the three day festival which takes place from 8-10 July.
