The sun was winning the battle with the rain clouds as Anna Calvi took the Obelisk stage for her early afternoon Latitude 2011 set.

But the English artist made sure there was still enough evocative gloom to see Latitude through the day.

Trademark red blouse hidden under a black leather jacket nicely representing the juxtaposed darkness and light of her sound, Calvi played ‘I’ll Be Your Man’, ‘Desire’, an abrasive cover of Edith Piaf’s ‘Jezebel’ and turned Elvis Presley’s ‘Surrender’ into a song lonesome for a David Lynch road movie.
