Say Hello to your final Glastonbury Festival 2016 headliner, Adele will top the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night of the festival.

For anyone who needs reminding, Adele (MBE) is one of the best selling artists of the 21st century.

Her latest album, ’25’, sold more copies in one week than Taylor Swift’s ‘1989‘ sold in one year. She is the first woman in the history of the US Billboard charts to have three simultaneous top 10 singles, and the first female artist to simultaneously have two albums in the top five of the Billboard 200.

Her second album, ’21’, is the longest-running number one album by any female solo artist in the history of the UK and US Album Charts.

Not bad for a 27-year-old still at the peak of her game. Now she’ll play one of her first festival shows in years, headlining Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid Stage on Saturday 25th June 2016.

She revealed the news live on stage at London’s O2, Glastonbury Festival later confirming the news on Twitter.

Adele joins previously announced headliners Muse and Coldplay atop this year’s Glastonbury Pyramid Stage line-up. She’s only the fifth artist to be officially confirmed, along with PJ Harvey and Jeff Lynne’s ELO.

The first major festival announcement is expect within the next two months.

Although a long-time rumour and bookies’ favourite to headline, Adele regularly expressed her objection to playing music festivals, even as late as October last year the BRIT school singer told Capital London’s Breakfast Show: “I think I have made myself pretty clear on Glastonbury. The crowds are too big – I don’t know if I could do it.

I went this year to watch Kayne [West] and I literally just crapped my pants on the size of the audience. It was pretty insane.

She added: “Well, the front row – they always do a poo and a pee so they don’t lose their spot. They do – I have seen it happen! I nearly did it myself years ago. It’s true, that is why it stinks down the front.

Glastonbury Festival returns to the hallowed grass of Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th June, 2016.

Rumours for this year’s festival include Foals, ZZ Top, New OrderDiana RossBring Me The Horizon, LCD SoundsystemBarry Manilow, Bloc Party, Barry GibbGrimes, and Swim Deep.

During a recent appearance on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Grammy award winner Jess Glynne confirmed she will be appearing at Glastonbury Festival 2016.
