I was browsing through eBay, thinking a larger upgrade to my 2 man Eurohike would be nice, and noticed there's a company called CJH selling these large Sandstorm tents at knockdown prices. However, there seems to be little information on these tents out on the Net, as it were... so I wondered if anyone here has any experience of them and if they are durable and good value for money, etc etc?

Caveat emptor n all that, after all

Ta!

I've just joined this forum so my reply will no doubt be far too late for Deusirae but maybe it will be of use to others. I bought a Sandstorm Alberta 4 man tent from CHJ in September 2007 for £79.99 and stored it away until my next big camping trip. I didn't test pitch it (OK, I know it's recommended...but I've owned around 8 different tents in my life, never test pitched any of them and never had problems when arriving at my camping destination)and when I arrived at the Womad festival in Wiltshire and unpacked the tent, to my horror I discovered that all the tent poles were missing. Only the metal poles to erect the door were in the bag. I had to resort to using my tiny hiking tent for two people, which I had in my car as a spare tent for storage during the trip. We had to crawl in and out of it for four days, which is no pleasure when you're at a music festival, where there are none of the normal "luxuries" of a campsite. On my return I contacted CHJ by email. The tent was out of its 12 month warranty but I asked whether they could supply me the missing tent poles. They replied to say one of their colleagues had that same tent and might have some poles for it. A great start. But after that? Total silence. I kept emailing them to ask if they could simply even give me a yes or a no but I never heard from them again and I eventually gave up. I would never buy another thing from CHJ and would advise others to be very careful when dealing with them.

Oh, and prior to my CHJ experience I owned a fantastic Eurohike tent. Better to stick with them I say!

You've probably got a bad response because you posted the topic in "meeting point" and not "campfire chat" or the info area. Try there too...

Personally I've not had experience with those tents - sorry!
