About Melt! Festival 2009
'Ferropolis', the venue which has hosted Melt! since 1997, literally means 'City of Iron' and at first sight could quite
easily be the backdrop for a scene out of Transformers.
Five coal diggers tower over the site creating, you'd think,
the ideal setting for Germany's industrial metal scene to thrash out riff after riff.
This isn't the case however as
artists like Bjork, Franz Ferdinand and Robyn have been among those filling a bill that runs through everything from rock
and indie to techno and hip-hop across 6 stages.
Camping is available for those attending as is the opportunity for
a dip in the lake which surrounds the Ferropolis peninsula. A number of food stalls, shops and other leisure activities are
available on-site and in the nearby town of Gräfenhainichen.
Dessau station (linked to the festival by shuttle bus)
has rail links to many of Germany's major cities including Leipzig who's two airports 'Leipzig Halle' and 'Leipzig Altenburg'
provide services to a host of European cities.
