The trio, made up of Benga, Skream and Artwork, arrived onstage at
1am to dimmed lights before taking the crowd through hits from their self-titled debut.
With help from Sgt
Pokes, the group swayed between an elegant ‘Flying Into Tokyo’ that had the crowd raising their arms
to singles ‘Fire’, ‘I Need Air’ and ‘Getting Nowhere’.
There were no guest
spots from Katy B or MS Dynamite, who sing on tracks on the album with the latter playing the festival too, but they weren’t
needed as the heavy basslines throbbed against the converted tennis club with many a happy Snowbomber dancing along.
“This is what it sounds if you were outside,” said Sgt Pokes at one point as the group dropped the
high and the mid from one number and just left the bass humming out of the speakers.
Benga used set finale ‘Perfect
Stranger’ as a cue to get into the audience and crowd-surf.
The Prodigy, Fatboy
Slim and Mark Ronson are all set to play Volvo Snowbombing 2011 as the festival takes over Mayrhofen in Austria from
4-9 April.
