Following Beefheart’s death in December, Hitchcock will celebrate the star’s musical influence
at the event, which will take place at Cheltenham Racecourse from 3-5 June.
Speaking
about his plans, Robyn Hitchcock said: “In
the Soft Boys we tried to cross ‘Abbey Road’ with ‘Trout Mask Replica’. It didn’t really work
but it was some hybrid. The most exciting show I’ve ever seen was Beefheart and The Magic Band in 1973. This won’t
be as accurate as the John French/Magic Band gigs a few years back, but ‘Clear Spot’ is quite a party album, and
we’re planning to have quite a party.”
Delta
Maid, 3 Daft Monkeys, Elfynn and Ahab have also been confirmed
for the event.
On the literary side, Cathy Hopkins, Judith Kerr and Ian
Whybrow have also been confirmed.
Acts announced today (Monday) join headliners The Charlatans and Ian Anderson who will play Jethro Tull tracks.
The Wurzels, Neville Staple
and The Beetroot Kings will also be appearing.
Wychwood Music Festival tickets are now available at £115 with camping passes
