Metallica Launch Live Download Site For US Tour

| 03 March 2004

Metallica have launched LiveMetallica.com, a website where fans will be able to purchase downloads from each date on their current US tour. They will cost $9.95 per gig and be available 4 days after the performance. For those wanting to burn the gigs to CD a booklet and labels can be obtained from the site.

The band were the first artists to sue Napster for lost copyright earnings, but had previously encouraged fans to bootleg their gigs.

Drummer Lars Ulrich believes LiveMetallica.com is a natural progression, "This is the next logical step in a process that began back in 1991 when we first implemented the 'Taper Section' at our shows, where the fans were encouraged to bring in their own gear to record the show, and then take home their very own 'bootleg' of the concert they had just seen. This technology will enable our fans to get the best possible recording of the show, without having to hold a microphone in the air for the entire night."

Metallica play Download 2004 on June 5 at Donnington Park and Download Scotland on June 2 at Glasgow Green.
