Glastonbury looking to increase late night arena

United Kingdom United Kingdom | by Daniel Fahey | 10 November 2010

Speaking to Virtual Festivals, head chief Michael Eavis said there will be a number of changes in 2011, which could include extra space for after hours entertainment.

“On Monday Emily [Eavis, co-organiser] and myself were talking to Shangri-La and Trash City about what we can do down there to make it bigger,”
said Eavis speaking about the popular late night arenas.

“We’re developing things all the time,”
he continued, “we don’t rest on our laurels. We are improving and changing things all the time – there will be lots of changes.”

This comes in light of a Mendip District Council report that followed the 2010 festival, which said the popularity of Shangri-La and Trash City restricted free-flowing crowd movement.

In the same review, councillors also suggested extra entertainment for festival-goers who arrive early and Michael Eavis said they were looking at implementing that.

“We’re trying to get the extra day in the Dance Village,”
he said, “particularly because there is a lot of people there on the Wednesday and Thursday.

“The Dance Village is raring to go but we do need permission from Mendip [District Council]. It’s up to Melvin [Benn, head of Festival Republic] to try and get the extra few hours if we can.”

When it came to the line-up for next June, Michael Eavis remained tight-lipped on the subject.

Glastonbury Festival unveiled their solar panel installation earlier today (Wednesday).
