Arcade Fire crown Reading with magnificent show
Band finish with massive version of 'Wake Up'
From their penultimate slot here a few years ago, the Canadian group stepped up to make the most of their hour and a half
set, flicking between all three of their albums.
“I want to thank the guys at Reading,” said singer Win Butler, “they donated £20,000 to Haiti and I think they might double it if you’re a good enough crowd,” he joked before ‘Modern Man’.
It was ‘Funeral’ tracks that gave the show the impedance this evening with ‘Neighbourhood #2 (Laika)’ and ‘Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)’ being sung back word for word.
‘Rocco’ was a brilliant reminder of the band’s versatility, as newbies ‘The Suburbs’ and ‘We Used To Wait’ slotted in wonderfully.
It’s a sweaty ‘Neighbourhood #3 (Tunnels)’ had received the greatest cheer as they segued the song into ‘Rebellion Lies’ but it was set closer ‘Wake Up’ that will stick in the minds of fans tonight.
