Xfm (London's alternative radio station) is pulling out all the stops to celebrate Christmas 2003, bringing together the year's hottest acts to stage the station's biggest-ever live gig. Xfm's Winter Warmer will light up The Astoria in London on Sunday 14th December, with all proceeds going to the homelessness charity Shelter. It's been a great year for music, and Xfm have secured some of the hottest festival acts of 2003 on the line-up, with some very special surprise guests still to be announced.
Already, The Cooper Temple Clause, The Music and New York's hottest new property The Scissor Sisters have agreed to give up their time to perform. And most recent confirmations include Graham Coxon and Mercury Music Prize nominee Martina Topley-Bird. Xfm's Winter Warmer is the first in what will hopefully become an annual event for the station and will raise thousands of pounds for Shelter, to help them improve the lives of homeless people right across the UK. It's the culmination of an amazing year for live music on Xfm.
Listeners have already been treated to over 400 exclusive live sessions * and signing the studio visitors book over the last twelve months have been Blur, Coldplay, Travis and Radiohead to name but four.
Programme Controller Andy Ashton said: "This is going to be the coolest possible end to the hottest year ever for Xfm. We first started doing something for charity a couple of Christmases ago, with our album 'It's a Cool, Cool Christmas' in support of The Big Issue. This year, with so many great acts keen to actually get up on stage and show their support, we felt it was time to take things to the next level."
Director of Shelter Adam Sampson said: "Every Christmas thousands of people and families suffer the misery of homelessness * and Shelter is always here to help them. We are enormously grateful for the support of Xfm's Winter Warmer gig that will raise vital funds so desperately needed to help these people." Tickets are on sale now at £20 and are available via the Virtual Festivals Ticket shop.
