Goldcoast Oceanfest 18-20 June

What is it?

Third beach party, third full-blown festival and third adventure sports weekend. Show some grit, tackle the iron man or lady competition before relaxing on the beach and soaking up the beer and bands in the evening. Or if that dodgy knee has unexpectedly struck again; watch the surfers, beach footballers and volleyball before taking the weight off it and be entertained by the music.

Three to see:

Alan Pownell
Signed to Mercury Records, this singer songwriter is gaining many plaudits from critics and his recent EP release has gained him plays on Radio 1. His summery sounds have subtle Jack Johnson undertones, the king of acoustic beach anthems.

Scott Matthews

Ideal for a beach-based festival, his talented guitar playing and his Nick Drake inspired voice will allow you to drift away upon the sandy shores of Croyde in Devon and forget that mouthful of sand you ate during the beach football.

The Magic Numbers

Hair and harmonies, the Magic Numbers are back on the festival circuit ahead of the release of their third album. Expect a few new tunes to appear but listen out for 'Love Me Like You' and the still fantastic summer anthem, 'Forever Lost'.

Can I still get tickets?

There are still tickets left and at £95 a family ticket (two adults and two children) is fantastic value.

Sounds in the Grounds 2010
19 June

What is it?

It’s probably as far from the mainland UK as you can get before hitting Greenland, but if you’re really looking to get away this weekend than Sounds In The Grounds may just be for you. A laidback, folky affair held in the Isle of Lewis’ only castle in Stornoway, which plays host to local talent as well as a well-known Scottish names.

Three to see:

The Boy Who Trapped The Sun
Gentle plucked acoustic guitars against a sweet, rich Scottish voice, it was no surprise that Snow Patrol plucked this Stornaway local for a support slot.

King Creosote

A demonstration of the strength of Scottish talent, this acoustic singer songwriter is relentless and has over forty albums worth of material to choose from. A real understated gem.

Phantom Band

Bringing a bit of city to the proceedings, these Glaswegians still ply their trade in wistful guitar-based tunes. With melodic guitar lines and spine-tingling vocals, these boys deserve a larger reputation and fan base, they are the perfect dusk band.

Can I still get tickets?

Yes they’re £10 for an adult or £6 for under 16s. Tickets will be available on the day.

Isle Of Man Bay Festival 201018-20 June

What is it?

Another boat ride away is the re-incarnated Isle of Man Bay Festival which takes place in Noble Park, Douglas. The newly named and located festival boasts an array of stars that may be more at home in your living room with Lemar, JLS and The X Factor meets Britain's Got Talent all set to perform with the diversity coming from dance-trope Diversity and Spandau Ballet.

Three to see:

Diversity
How can you turn down a chance to see this very talented dance collective?  Fast-paced, acrobatic moves crossed with inventive street dance, it was enough to impress millions of TV viewers and well, if it's good enough for the Queen…

JLS

Number one hits, a charming manner and butter wouldn't melt looks. And an added bonus for fans this year is 'celebrity sleepovers' where a few lucky residents can house JLS for a night. Agents think of it all these days.

Spandau Ballet

With a lovers soundtrack to the eighties, these mega stars will hopefully teaching the new comers just how pop entertainment should be done.  Children be wary of that wink your mum sends in dad's direction during 'True'

Can I still get tickets?

You can indeed, with a weekend pass setting you back just £125 plus booking fee. If you're not from the Island fingers crossed those sleepovers extend to tourists.
