Off The Tracks Spring Festival 201028-30 May

What is it?
The first of two Off The Track festivals this year, organisers are offering a weekend of family-friendly frolics this spring. Saturday night will play host to a frenzy of painted faces and outrageous outfits with a fancy dress party is taking place: involvement is a must! There’s good food and good ale with a wide range of workshops including Tai Chi and yoga too.

Three to see:

Alabama 3 - Headliners Alabama 3 mix genres of music including rock, dance and jazz and are sure to put on an entertaining show.
The Beat – This band with its controversial lyrics and ska influenced music should be at the top of your list of bands to see.
The Popes – These rockers have released a number of successful albums throughout the UK.

Where can I get tickets?

Tickets are just £60 for the weekend including camping. Don’t panic festival-goers, if you don’t manage to get to the even this spring, the festival is running a second weekend during the summer.

Strummercamp 201028-30 May

What is it?

Influenced by Joe Strummer, this punk rock hippy festival is taking it old school with a not-for-profit event, wholly organised by volunteers. There are two stages of rockin’ bands who will perform to just 1000 or so festival-goers, making this festival an intimate celebration all in the name of seminal punks the Clash, who were rated number 30 in the Rolling Stones’ top 100 bands.

Three to see:
The Blockheads
– An influential rock band and are sure to put on an outstanding performance in commemoration of the tragic loss of vocalist Ian Dury.
Godfathers – These guitar heroes have toured around the world and it would be a great shame to miss this opportunity to see them.
The Grit - This band is renowned for its live performances and promises to put on an eccentric show for the crowd.

Can I get tickets?

A full camping weekend ticket will cost £59.50 or £35 for a day ticket but be quick.

Hungry Pigeon Festival 2010 28-30 May

What is it?

Despite its reference to the common domesticated bird, Hungry Pigeon takes place in Manchester’s coolest area, the northern quarter, and showcases the best in local and national talent. More than 200 artists will take to the stage for the three-day festival, performing at one of the festivals 16 stages. As well as an exciting line up there are also art displays and circus acts. Each year this festival’s reputation gets bigger, so get yourself up north to be a part of the action.

Three to see:
Athlete
– This musically stunning rock band, whose debut album went platinum, are a must-see at Hungry Pigeon.
Liam Frost – This Manc folk star made his debut at just 15 and writes and produces his own music.
Kid British – These lads are based in Manchester and have created an individual sound consisting of ska, rock and hip hop.

Can I get tickets?

This festival is a bargain at £23.50 for the full event or if you want a day ticket it’s £12.

Slam Dunk Festival 2010
29-30 May

What is it?

Slam Dunk is a rockers delight, taking place in the North (Leeds University) or the South (Herts University) over one day. The festival showcases the best talents in punk, ska, hardcore and rock they can squeeze into 24 hours. There’s also an after shows which will run until 3am taking place in the Purple Turtle, Camden and the O2 Academy in Liverpool.

Three to see:
New Found Glory
– Hailing since the 90’s, this fun pop punk band is both energetic and pleasing, they’re sure to be the highlight of the event.
RX Bandits – This band offers a stimulating fusion of guitar and trumpets sounds, their up tempo ska music is sure to get you moving.
Blackhole – Blackhole are the latest kids to hit the hardcore scene and have toured with the likes of Cancer Bats and Every Time I Die.

Can I get tickets?

Tickets are just £25 for the day but hurry because with such an enormous line up of huge bands, tickets will quickly sell out.
