In December the Calfornian band vowed to play a “huge” free show in the UK in 2010 to celebrate successfully beating X Factor's Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one thanks to a Facebook campaign. This concert is rumoured to be taking place in London's Hyde Park, using the infrastructure already in place for the capital's Wireless and Hyde Park Calling festivals, produced by Live Nation.

On Saturday (February 6), Live Nation promoter and Download Festival booker Andy Copping wrote on his Twitter page: “There should be news regarding the free Rage Against The Machine gig late next week...”

RATM are very strongly rumoured to be the second headliner announced for Download Festival (with AC/DC already comfirmed and Aerosmith still under discussion) and Copping today confirmed there would be a major Download announcement next week.

Patience people,” he Tweeted, “A (Download) announcement will be forthcoming next week, all will be good, you should like what we have. Can't wait for the doubters."

Download Festival returns to Donington on 11-13 June. Click here for tickets.
