31 July 2003
Jack White broke his left index finger in an accident last week when his car was hit by another vehicle while he was driving in Detroit with girlfriend Renee Zellweger (who was unhurt). As a result The White Stripes postponed all of their US tour dates and were forced to cancel their shows at the T in the Park and Witnness Festivals.
Organisers Mean Fiddler have promised the pair will return next year to headline. A statement reads: "We were regretfully informed by the White Stripes today that they have had to withdraw from this year's festivals on doctor's advice following Jack White's recent traffic accident. "I am sure that everyone going to the festivals will join us in wishing Jack a speedy recovery and we look forward to The White Stripes returning to headline at the 2004 Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals." Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will preform instead, between headliners Blur and Beck, on Saturday August 23 at Reading and Sunday August 24 at Leeds.Meanwhile, Lost Prophets will be holed up in the studio with Eric Valentine, who has previously worked with Queens Of The Stone Age and Good Charlotte, to complete their second album, due for release later this year.
They will be replaced with Biffy Clyro on the Main Stage, playing Leeds on Friday August 22 and Reading on Sunday August 24. Metallica headline on both days.Tickets are available from the Virtual Festivals Ticket Shop
