Glastonbury Festival line-up nears completion

'One headliner has never played before' reveals Emily Eavis

The main stage bill for the event’s 40th anniversary edition is nearly confirmed, with boss Emily Eavis hinting that one headliner has never played the Somerset bash before.

“We’re still slightly confirming the Sunday night headliner but apart from that, we’ve pretty much finalised the Pyramid Stage which is good,” the festival chief told BBC 6Music.

“We’re very, very pleased with it. It’s a 40 year celebration this year so we’ve got some amazing highlights from the full 40 years and also some people who haven’t played before, one headliner in particular, so we’re very pleased with it.”

As usual, Glastonbury bosses have kept their cards close to their chest, catalysing rumours of a top spot for a monster act such as Beyonce or long-term target Stevie Wonder.

With only U2 confirmed to headline on the Friday there has been rife speculation that Muse will top the bill on the Saturday, but Emily Eavis has warned against believing the hype.

“I think this is the first year that people genuinely don’t know who is going to be playing, which is a good thing,” she commented.

She also told the radio station that fans can expect an end to the rumours soon, claiming, “We’re hoping to announce the names soon because I think there’s an air of desperation and I understand that people want to know, so as soon as we can, we will announce the names."

Surf rocker Jack Johnson and My Luminaries are the only acts alongside U2 that are officially confirmed.

Glastonbury Festival 2010 will take place on Worthy Farm, Somerset, from 23-27 June.
