Thawed out: freezing festivals and snow soirees
In homage to everybody who has skived from work this week to play in the snow, we've done the same and thawed out this article about the coldest festivals on the planet...
It hardly ever snows, but when it does, boy isn't it brilliant: no school, no work and plenty of time building half-arsed snowmen, while simultaneously decapitating the heads of others that have been left grinning in the park.
We've decided to tenuously link the wonderful white weather with the festivals that will have you freezing over the next few months. Warning: at least awful pun ahead.
Snowbombing 2010 – Mayforhen, Austria, 5-10 April
This ski holiday-cum-glacier festival is one to put the shivers up your spine. An avalanche in The Alps looks likely with Fatboy Slim, 2ManyDJs and De La Soul banging out the beats as festival-goers blast away their hangovers the next day on the pistes. There will also be hidden parties, mountain top igloos and fancy dress revelry to make sure its an alpine experience you're unlikely to forget, unless you have a Jagerbomb too many…
Tickets: packages start from £279. Click here for full Snowbombing ticket options.
Little World Festival 2010 – Meribel, France – 13-19 March
This year pop band The Feeling thought it would be cool to return to the scene of their earliest gigs which, rather surprisingly, is the Meribel ski resort in France. This week-long event will snowball from small bar gigs to a huge (and completely free) on-piste main show. Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Ed Hardcourt and Glenn Tilbrook are among the stars set to melt fans hearts with one wristband giving entry to all the shows.
Tickets: early bird tickets start at 90 Euros. Click here to buy Little World Festival tickets.
Caprices Festival 2010 – Crans-Montana, Switzerland – 7-10 April
Caprices Festival could snowball into one heck of a party – not only can snow enthusiasts enjoy four days on the magnificent Crans-Montana slopes but they can then party long into the night with three stages of music and two banging clubs. Carl Cox, Martin Solveig and DJ Food will be snowstorm-ing the decks while Macy Gray, Gotan Project and Rodrigo y Gabriela will take care of things on the live front. What you waiting for? Get your skis on…
Tickets: prices vary, see official website for details. Click here to buy Caprices Festival tickets.
The Big Chill 2010 – Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire, 7-9 August
You were warned – what a terrible pun, but a great festival. One of the original boutique bashes, The Big Chill spawned out of the 90’s club scene and the festival manages to cater for the comedown the next day as well. There will plenty of dance on offer but jazz, hip hop, funk soul and chill out music as well as well as art installations and much more.
