The future of both events was under scrutiny following the suspension of organiser Richard Haswell in October
after local newspaper, the Leicester Mercury, reported losses of £1.41m over two years.
However the festivals
are set to go ahead next summer after Leicester City Council and CODA, who have helped organise
both festivals since their inception, deemed the 2009 events a triumph.
A joint statement from both organisations
reads, “We are both determined to build on the fantastic success of these two festivals in 2009. The Big Session
Festival sold out and we had our best ever attendance at Summer Sundae, showing that music fans really value and appreciate
the two events.
“We cannot let them down in 2010 and we want to reassure people that both organisations
are committed to working in partnership to deliver the festivals again in 2010.
“Whilst there are some
further details to be worked through before a final contract is signed, we feel it is important that we dispel any doubts
people may have about the future of the two events.
“2010 will be another great year for music fans
in Leicester – especially at De Montfort Hall.”
The Big Session Festival
2010 will take place from 18-20 June with early bird tickets on sale from 7 December
2009.
Summer Sundae
Weekender 2010 will celebrate its tenth anniversary next year and it will take place on 13-15 August
2010, with early bird tickets on sale from 12 January 2010.
