Promoter of the Year shortlist announced
One will be crowned the best at the UK Festival Awards

06 November 2009
The award praises organisers that have raised the bar significantly or triumphed over adversity to make sure that the fans
get the best festival experience they can.
A shortlist of nine promoters has been whittled down and there will
be just one winner announced at the UK Festival Awards live show at indigO2, London on 19
November.
The shortlist is as follows:
Michael Eavis and The Glastonbury Festival Team
Together the wish to provide better facilities for the ticket-holders and the impending national regulations, caused
Michael Eavis to decide during December 2008 to build a reservoir that would hold at least one million litres of water for
the 2009 event.
Stuart Galbraith and The Kilimanjaro Live Team
For defying the most
challenging economic climate of all time to launch one of the largest debut rock festivals ever attempted with Sonisphere,
which successfully attracted 80,000 people to Knebworth in the UK (as part of a six-leg European tour attended by over 300,000).
John Probyn, Andy Copping and the Live Nation Team
For achieving a spectacular return to
form for Download Festival through a successful site refresh and a massive line-up. They were also able to contend with a
swarm of bees that gatecrashed the second stage in the middle of a performance!
The Beach Break Live
Team
With just six days before the sold-out festival was due to open, a shock ruling from a local planning
committee forced a rather last minute relocation of the event from Cornwall, 400 miles East to Kent! Working 24 hours a day,
the team incredibly managed to turned around the build including sourcing almost all new suppliers and a million challenges
in time. All 10,000 loyal ticket-holders duly followed and one of the best festivals of the summer ensued.
Rob da Bank and the Bestival/ Camp Bestival Team
For defying the most challenging economic climate of
all time to sell-out and create two of the most flawless events ever produced, both with sizeable capacity increases, and
setting a new standard for the entire marketplace in how to entertain festival-goers (and their children, at Camp Bestival).
The Secret Garden Party Team
For raising the bar of eccentric and creative festival production
to include two floating dance floors, a band in a tree, a 20 person simultaneous mud wrestling match and - most spectacular
of a all - building a 40 foot high 'Tower Of Babel' on an island in the middle of a lake.
The
Lovebox Team
For the 'Gaymers Tree House' - a modern-day, 200-person capacity tree house structure
built into a semi-circular copse of mature London plane trees. Measuring nearly 40 metres wide, ten metres deep and over six
metres high, the design included four traditional cedar wood roofing canopies that offered shade from the sun and two tiers
of both seating and standing as well as a small bar serving draught cider all weekend. The whole structure was clad in natural
split bark and slab wood so as to conceal all of the health and safety provisions included within the design. It was orientated
to intertwine within the branches and limbs of the trees and looked down onto a bandstand where a rolling program of comedy,
barn-dancing, rockabilly and promenade theatre and with a view of Lovebox's second stage in the distance. The structure
was built in four days and, after the show, packed up into a shipping container ready to be re-installed again next year!
The Bearded Theory Team
For keeping the show going after a freak tornado
tore through the site and ripped apart the main stage. No one was seriously hurt and the sense of camaraderie by the festival
production team, emergency services and fans pulling together in the incident made for an unparalleled atmosphere for the
rest of the event.
One Love Festival
For having to completely rearrange the entire
festival site, including all suppliers, just two weeks before the event... and succeeding to create one of the best editions
to date.
