The 81-year old crooner made the announcement at Cheltenham literature festival to Radio 4’s John Wilson.
"I had asked him if he had any plans to play any more gigs,” said Wilson, “and he said he had been asked to play at the festival."
2010 will be the 40th anniversary of the event and organiser Michael Eavis has promised to book “a band from each year of the festival’s history,” but also admitted that they are trying for the world’s best headliners to top the bill.
In other Glastonbury news, an “impeccable source” has confirmed that the Leftfield Stage is due to return after it was omitted from last year’s event.
Glastonbury Festival 2010 will take place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset from 23-27 June.
All the tickets to the event have sold out, but a limited number of passes are expected to go on sale in the coming weeks due to failed transactions.
