Michael Eavis '40th anniversary will be little bit special'

Passes for the event, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary next June, will be available from 4 October at 9am.

Speaking about the first festival back in 1970, organiser Michael Eavis said: "Back then we'd had a few cancellations and were struggling a bit. We needed to pull someone in to save the day. Luckily Marc Bolan, a huge star at the time, was driving along the A361 on his way to play Butlins in Minehead and we managed to get to him... The rest, of course, is history!

"Now I'm fully confident that the anniversary line-up will be just that little bit special when it is revealed next year. We want as many people as possible to be part of the celebrations and to enjoy what we do here."

Tickets are priced at £185 plus a £5 booking fee. Those wishing to purchase must be registered before 2 October.

Passes will be available via www.seetickets.com and through the dedicated phone line 0844 412 4635. An international sales line can be found on the official Glastonbury Festival website along with full information on the registration and ticketing process.

Anyone aged 13 or over who wishes to buy a ticket MUST be registered at least 48 hours before they buy a ticket in order to ensure they have a valid registration number to complete the transaction. Customers will have the option of buying a full ticket up front - or paying a deposit of £50 to reserve a ticket, with the full balance due by the closing date of 28 February 2010.

Michael Eavis added: "We have the fairest ticketing operation available anywhere. With this scheme, backed by the all-important registration process, everyone has an equal chance of getting a ticket. And most importantly, every ticket will ONLY be going to a genuine festival-goer direct."

Glastonbury Festival 2010 will take place at Worthy Farm, Somerset from 23-27 June.
