The weather held for the entire three days of the festival, a welcome contrast to the rain and mud of 2008.
After
a day of sunshine, Yusuf joined folkrock pioneers Fairport Convention to entertain a packed
arena soon after dusk.
"It was marvellous to share a stage with one of popular music's greats,"
says Simon Nicol, Fairport's guitarist and singer, "Yusuf said that this was his first
festival appearance in over twenty-five years and I'm sure he could not have wished for a more welcoming crowd for his
return to a big stage."
"Once again that fantastic Cropredy vibe enveloped the concert field,"
says Gareth Williams, Festival Director. "Our audience's enthusiasm for all the bands was overwhelming.
Every act got a great reception."
Cropredy attracted a near-capacity attendance yet again. "Advance
sales have been very strong this year and, thanks to the wonderful weather, we also had a great walk-up on all three days,"
said Mr Williams, "In fact, at one point I thought we might sell out!"
Crime prevention is a
high priority for the organisers, Mr Williams added. This year, crime was negligible with virtually no thefts. Once again,
Thames Valley Police worked in close co-operation with the festival's own security team.
Fairport's
Cropredy Convention 2010 takes place on 12-14 August 2009.
