Festival organiser John Giddings also hinted that Thom
Yorke and Chuck Berry could also feature
over the weekend.
Virtual Festivals spoke exclusively to Giddings during this year’s festival
and asked him who he really wanted to book that he hadn’t had yet managed to get, to which he said: “Oasis,
The Killers, Kings Of Leon, Radiohead. I don’t think that we’ll ever run out of bands. I also like heritage bands:
The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, The Police – it has got a diversity about it.
“This year it’s
more eclectic than ever, we’ve got dance, indie, pop, but we haven’t got any blues. I really need to book a blues
band.”
When asked if he had anyone in mind he said, “I haven’t thought about it yet.
But it suddenly occurred to me – I need a great blues act – Saturday afternoon.” When VF suggested
Chuck Berry, Giddings replied, “Absolutely.
I need a legend - a legend’s slot.”
The festival boss also put out a plea for Noel Gallagher
to perform at the festival saying, “Noel Gallagher please listen. I’ve got to have Oasis, I’ve
got to have them.”
Following on from the success of Tim Burgess curating the Sunday
line-up for this year’s Big Top stage, Giddings also mused over who to pick for 2010. “Who could I get to
do it?” he said, “Thom Yorke? Will he do that kind of thing? I don’t know […] his manager
is here actually. Maybe I should ask him?”
