Peter Gabriel confirmed for WOMAD 2009
United Kingdom | 15 June 2009
Ex Genesis frontman and charity guru Peter Gabriel has been confirmed to play his only European show of the summer at WOMAD.
The singer-songwriter is set to play on the Saturday (25 July), on the back of a successful South American tour and in aid of his human rights organisation Witness.
He had this to say about the upcoming appearance: "This will be my only show in Europe this year, and I am delighted it will be for Witness.org. I had no plans to play in the UK but when Festival Director, Chris Smith, heard I was looking for a suitable event, he generously offered the Saturday at WOMAD. We are trying to raise £100,000 for Witness."
Witness was set up in 1992 to establish and promote the use of video in courts, in front of commissions and as a tool to raise awareness in the fight against human rights violations in countries around the globe.
Peter Gabriel, who helps fill the gab left by Fat Freddy's Drop's cancelled headline appearance, will join a wealth of global talent that includes the likes of Nneka, Dub Collossus, Solomon Burke, Caravan Palace and many more.
