Monday
The Britain’s Got Talent hype Susan Boyle-d over to the festival world this week
with Wireless organisers announcing that the contest winners, Diversity, are set to perform
at the event. They will be showing off their moves to the London crowd on Sunday 5 July alongside Kanye
West and Q-Tip.
A group that won’t be in London this summer will be Fat
Freddy’s Drop after the New Zealand group cancelled their entire European schedule. The news is bad for Lovebox
bosses and fans, but even worse for Secret Garden Party and WOMAD, who had both booked the
band the headline.
Channel Island music lovers are getting ready to go ‘Bonkers’ this summer after
Dizzee Rascal was added to the Jersey Live line-up. Jamie T, Chew
Lips, Kap Bambino and Curry And Coco have also been announced for the September
event joining headliners Basement Jaxx and The Kooks.
On a more environmental
slant, A Greener Festival revealed that they are planting a Festival Wood – a five-acre plot that will
symbolise music fan’s commitment to the environment. To get involved text ‘festival’ to
82540 to plant one tree, ‘greener’ to plant two.
Tuesday
Latitude went culture crazy on Tuesday announcing more music, film, literature, comedy and cabaret
for this year’s bill. St Etienne, The Temper Trap and Kap Bambimo
have been added to the musical side of things while Frank Skinner will be the Literature Arena leaving the
funny stuff to the likes of Lee Mack, Stephen Grant and Rob Rouse in the
Comedy Arena.
Brighton’s Loop Festival and Green Man in Wales were busy
revealing more acts set to play over the summer. Man Like Me, Mirrors, Win Prizes
and Blah Blah Blah will be playing at Loop, while Camera Obsura, Hawkwind,
Gang Gang Dance and Amorphous Androgynous are set to play Green Man Festival.
Avon
and Somerset police also made it into the news with the constabulary, who look after Glastonbury Festival,
unveiling their new website dedicated to keeping safe at the Worthy Farm event. Check out www.glastonburypolice.org for more.
Wednesday
Following a touch
of site feng shui by Download organisers, they’ve announced that they’ve managed to fit in an
extra 2,500 camping spaces after originally selling out. But with Faith No More, Slipknot
and Def Leppard headlining, the extra lot are not expected to be around for long, so click here to buy Download camping tickets now.
It wasn’t more tickets, but more bands
for Hard Rock Calling and Guilfest on Wednesday. Calling at London’s Hyde
Park in July will be The Magic Numbers, Starsailor, Johnny Flynn
and more, while Transglobal Underground, You Me At Six and Hundred Reasons
were among the latest Guilfest additions.
For Global Gathering ticket-holders, the wait was over
to see who’s playing where, with organisers revealing stage and day breakdowns. The Prodigy and Pendulum
are among the names set for the Friday (24 July) before the likes of Orbital and Armin
Van Buuren take over on the Saturday (25 July). Click here to see the rest of the Global Gathering line-up.
Thursday
Punk lovers are in for an early ATP Christmas present as Buzzcocks head up the latest batch of acts for
the My Bloody Valentine-curated Nightmare Before Christmas. Wounded Knee,
Spectrum, Fucked Up and Le Volume Courbe will also play the December event.
T In The Park revealed the 16 acts to play this year’s T Break Stage which
includes bad band name badges for My Cousin I Bid You Farewell, Ming Ming And The Ching Chings,
G1ft and Tango In The Attic. Little Eskimos, Mike Nisbit
and Barn Owl will also play over the weekend.
More dodgy band names were to be found at End
Of The Road as organisers announce acts for The Local tent. The Week That Was,
Emily Barker And The Red Clay Halo, Zun Zun Egui, Dan Michaelson
And The Coastguards and more will all play in September.
Friday
Scotland’s
Wickerman Festival completed the line-up its Solus Tent today adding Healthy Minds Collapse,
Yahweh, Washington Irving and A Band Called Quinn to the bill, while Glade
Festival announced loads of drum n bass action for the weekend from the likes of Andy C, DJ
