We can start this week with the good news that Dave Galhan, Depeche Mode frontman is on the road to recovery after a malignant tumor was removed from his bladder. This means that Depeche Mode will resume touring as of June 8. Despite having to relinquish their spot at Pinkpop festival this weekend, the band are still on course for the following five events:
20 - TW Classic Festival 2009, Werchter (BE)
July 3 - Arvika Festival 2009, Arvika (SE)
July 6 - Festival des deux Cités, Carcassonne (FR)
July 9 - Bilbao BBK Live Festival 2009, Bilbao (ES)

Pinkpop punters are still unsure as to who will be replacing the band who were due to headline on the Saturday with back up from the mighty Placebo. Brian Molko and co' were confirmed to headline the Friday (21 August) at Pukkelpop this week with Eagles of Death Metal, Ladyhawke, MSTRKRFT, The Rifles and more also announced.

Still in Belgium, Dour Festival made a monumental announcement with a list of over 40 new confirmations. French singer-songwriter Sebastien Tellier headed up the bunch which also included Meshuggah, Steve Aoki, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, and Dr. Lektroluv among others.
Over the border to the East we were treated to
yet more treats from Lowlands who confirmed British electro kings Klaxons
and US post-hardcore outfit Thursday. The two were join on the list of additions with some home grown talent,
headed by De Staat and Destine, as well as a few exotic bands in the shape of Grupo
Fantasma and Bomba Estereo.
Half way through the week Oxegen, Europe's Best Festival of 2008 as voted for at the UK Festival Awards popped up to announce the full line-up for this summer's Hot Press New Bands Stage. Little Boots, The Maccabees and Spinnerette are all set for the exciting arena which will now be chock full of new talent including The Airborne Toxic Event, Patrick Wolf, Passion Pit, Hockey and many more.
We move on now to Scandinavia, the land of long summer days, vikings and, as of this week, hip-hop. Indeed Hove Festival announced a handful of Rap legends for this summer's even, including New York supremo Jadakiss, Bronx rapper Fat Joe and new LA sensation U-N-I. Also added to the line-up were Q-Tip, who is in for busy European summer, and Necro, creator of the new 'Death-Rap' genre.
On a softer musical front, but just as notorious, were able to report the headline slot secured by Pete Doherty for this summer's Berlin Festival. The wild-child is to be joined in Germany's capital by Zoot Woman, Dear Reader and US indie-rockers Crystal Antlers as well as Humanzi, Peaches and house project Whirlpool Productions. Jarvis Cocker, Deichkind and more will be present at the historical Templehof Airport just outside the city centre.

Berlin's penchant for electro is well documented. Berlin Festival punters will be able to sample the epicness of the capital's nightlife whilst there. For others it will be a case of scouring the continent for the selection of other events that can deliver the crushing bass, robotic reverberations and laser guided visuals this summer.
For the French their prayers were answered this week as dance-master Carl Cox was confirmed to top Electromind 2009. He joined a line-up that already sported the likes of Richie Hawtin, DJ Hype, Dubfire, Boys Noize and many more in one of France's premier summer locations, Montpellier.
Still on the dance front Basement Jaxx made headlines again as they swooped in to wrap up the final spot on Nuke
Festival's line-up. The British out-fit join Moby, Joss Stone, The Cat Empire and many more
on the bill. It wasn't all good news at Nuke though, well, for expectant !!! fans at-least.
The band were forced to cancel their appearance in Austria. They are set to be replaced by reggae-soul artist Patrice.
We can round things off with two of the emerging festival forces this week. Sinead O'Connor and
The Whip were the biggest additions for Latvia's Positivus Festival which is one to
look forward to. Meanwhile, festival favourite Silent Disco is set to take control of a few nights at Romania's
B'estfest with DJ Tommi, Funkstar de Luxe, Oceana and Ulytau all set
to make appearances at the event.
