See who's been busy these past seven days

We kick things off this week in Switzerland where Open Air St.Gallen, the country’s answer to Glastonbury, confirmed the presence of mighty US rap outfit Cypress Hill. The band is down to play alongside the likes of Flaming Lips for the Friday (26 June), an evening that will no doubt be a little insane in the brain.
Possibly the biggest news of this
week comes from Holland where 2ManyDJs are set to don the clogs at this summer’s Lowlands Festival
2009. The legendary Dutch weekender also confirmed the presence of Beirut, Eagles of Death
Metal, Ska-P and many more for what promises to be a thunderous party on the plains

Arctic
Monkeys and Basement Jaxx are set to headline
Lowlands, forming a combo that will re-unite at Denmark’s BeatDay Festival later on
in the summer. The line-up for the Copenhagen bash was completed this week by 8-bit duo Crystal Castles,
Ladytron and The Raveonettes.
BeatDay wasn’t the only
Scandinavian event at the forefront of the festival news these past seven days with Hove Festivalen confirming
dance monsters The Prodigy for a headline set. The trio, who are back to their rampant best, join no less than The Killers, Faith No More, Slipknot and more in Norway.
The Ting Tings are also set to take Hove by storm this summer. The British
duo was confirmed for Finnish giant Provinssirock as well as the Don Johnsson Big Band,
Sunrise Avenue, Hjaltalin and more. Placebo, Opeth and
Supergrass are amongst the host of big names set to top the bill
Finally in neighbouring Sweden,
13 new names were added to the bill for Hultsfred 2009. Dungen, Raubtier and
The Boxer Rebellion are amongst the lucky number of acts who are set to join Kings of Leon,
Franz Ferdinand and The Killers on a
bill worthy of many a Norse god.
You couldn’t have a European news round-up without popping through Germany.
Faith No More were the big winners this week as they
are set to headline both Highfield and Area4 festivals.
Highfield
also confirmed Patrick Wolf and The Temper Trap while Deftones, Thursday, The Get Up Kids and Zebrahead
were announced for Area4. The two festivals are essentially twins, sharing the likes of Die
Toten Hosen, The Offspring and Rise Against over a single weekend at the end of
August.
Over the border it has been a an equally big week for Belgium with three of the country’s front-running
events whetting appetites like a plate of muscles and chips.
Ex Fugees frontwoman Lauryn Hill
was announced for Les Ardentes alongside Tricky, Mylo and Get Well
Soon. Many more were also confirmed for the Liege weekender, joining the likes of Grandmaster Flash,
Gossip and Supreme NTM.
Dour Festival 2009 was also at it with
the confirmation of legendary Franco-reggae outfit Tryo, The Gaslight Anthem and legendary
Brazilian metal veterans Sepultura. Assassin, Trail of Dead and many more
were added to one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan events.

Over the border in France a host of smaller festivals put up their hands this week to take a slice of
the newsworthy pie.
The Kills and Grizzly Bear were confirmed for La
Route du Rock in Brittany whilst on the outskirts of Paris The Go! Team, Dillinger Escape
Plan, Suicidal Tendencies and more were announced for Furia Sound Festival 2009.
Further to the South of the country Ghinzu, Phoenix and Santigold
are now set to take part at the quaint little Garden Nef Party, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Naïve
New Beaters and South Central helped complete the line-up for Le Rock dans tous ses Etats
and Editors and Gossip were amongst the first acts for the brand spanking new Festival
du Beauregard.
In the UK
Faith No
More broke embargo to announce themselves for Reading and Leeds festivals whilst
Kasabian were confirmed as Bruce Springsteen’s special guest for Glastonbury.
Will Young, McFly, Sneaky Soundsystems and Sharon Corr
were all penciled in for the Isle of Wight festival, Secret Garden Party confirmed Fat
Freddy’s Drop and Calvin Harris and on the metal front, Download revealed
the presence of Hatebreed, Therapy?, God Forbid and more as day by day
timetables were released.
