Line-ups
Trying to plan a decent hen night this summer? Then look no further than the
Isle of Wight Festival. Organisers have taken the pleasure of adding the glamour and tiaras to their 80’s
vibe with Bananarama, Eddi Reader, Beverley Knight and Ladyhawke
all set to play the big top on the Friday.
We’re unsure if Ms Hawke was the muse when Edwyn Collins
sang: "I’ve never met a girl like you before," but we do know he’s been added to this year’s
T In The Park bill along with The Courteeners, Frank Turner and Daniel
Merriweather. Mr Collins has proved to be a very busy boy this week, confirming that he will headline Canterbury’s
Lounge On The Farm with a little help from The Aliens, Ipso Facto and Dub
Pistols as well.
A band that need no help causing chaos are Lost Prophets who were revealed
as the final headliner for the Radio 1/NME tents at Reading and Leeds this August, joining
The Gossip and Glasvegas.
Wireless, it seems, wants to
avoid all that rock nonsense this year, instead lining up the likes of Digitalism (we all know the Germans
do electro the best) for the Saturday as well as Delphic and Filthy Dukes. The beats don’t
stop there either with ex-A Tribe Called Quest man, Q-tip, Kid Cudi and Flo Rida
adding some musical diversity to the Hyde Park festival.
Talking of musical diversity, Hop Farm
Festival bosses have secured variety in one fell swoop, announcing that 2ManyDJs will make
the trip from Ghent to Kent in July. Paul Weller, Editors, Doves and Dananananakroyd
are also among the acts set to rock the 'no branding, no sponsorship, no VIP area' bash.
A band that will
be welcomed as VIPs this summer are Madness. The ska lads are set to skank their way back down to north London
for the Camden Crawl, playing several secret sets. So keep those eyes and ears peeled because we all know
what the first sign of Madness is? Suggs coming round the corner. Boom boom.
Finally and sticking with
the capital, German techno wizards Booka Shade have been announced for Get Loaded In The Park
in Clapham Common this August.

Europe
The Spanish must have missed a siesta or two this week with Bilbao BBK
announcing that Jane’s Addiction will headline the festival with help from Kaiser Chiefs
and Editors, while Sonar bosses confirmed that Animal Collective will play
in June. Ibiza’s International Music Summit bosses have confirmed that the event will be closed by
Basement Jaxx this week too. Elsewhere Arctic Monkeys are set to top the bill at Belgium’s
Pukkelpop, 2ManyDJs are heading to Oxegen and Lily Allen
and is set for Hurricane and Southside in Germany.
And finally…
Glade bosses have stumbled across a group of German festival-goers who obviously skipped one or two
of their Cub Scout meetings when they were younger:
"Have you got everything you need for the weekend
dear?"
"Jah."
"Where are your clothes? It’ll be cold in England, it might rain."
"I’m going like this."
"Naked! Well at least you’ve got your tent poles."
We were as baffled as you when 30 German ravers contacted the festival to ask if they could spend the whole weekend
naked. You’ve got to admire their balls, err, manners.
