The Mercury Prize and Brit Award winners join Massive Attack
and Kraftwerk who were previously confirmed as bill toppers
for the Friday and Saturday nights respectively.
Commenting about the final Bestival headliner
of 2009, organiser Rob da Bank said: "Its been a long road to landing our Sunday night headliners,
much like the 18 year road our Sunday headliners have travelled ‘til they finally got the exposure they deserve ...
I’m well pleased that Elbow
will be bringing things to a majestic grand finale on the Sunday of Bestival and can’t think of a more suitable act
after their mammoth year. All that aside they just make brilliant, honest music that judging by the biggest singalong I saw
at Glastonbury last year will go down a storm on the Isle of Wight."
The list of additions didn’t
stop at the Manchester five-piece as Doves, The Horrors and Casiokids
were lined-up for the weekendery alongside The Big Pink, Polly Scattergood, The
Duloks and Fresh Legs.
XO-Man and The Ghost complete
the list of live acts confirmed today, 3 April as a host of DJs including Toddla T, Dublime - Applebim,
Martyn, 2562 & Reso, Chris Coco & Pete
Gooding, Daisy Heartbreaker and Kasra were also confirmed for the festival’s
late night discotheque.
Last but not least, Bestival 2009
is set to celebrate the abundance of talent emerging from the Isle of Wight itself. Bands from the island are down to have
complete control over the bandstand throughout the whole of Saturday on what has been aptly dubbed ‘Island Day’.
JC and Angelina, Wightlight Orchestra, Guy Page Trio, Santa
Spirita, Joe Stilgoe and many more are set to play.
Other names for the festival which has won the Best Medium Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards three times include MGMT, Fleet Foxes, Seasick Steve, DJ Yoda, Passion Pit and many more.
