Festival Republic invests in two Euro-fests

Republic of Ireland Republic of Ireland | 01 April 2009

The leading UK festival and event promoter is to invest in Ireland’s Electric Picnic Music & Arts Festival in what is dubbed a new chapter in the event’s evolution.

Aiken Promotion’s interest in the festival is to be bought out by the umbrella organisation. Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic and Latitude Festival in the UK had this to say: “I have been a friend of John Reynolds [MD Electric Picnic] for a long, long time and have been a fan of the Electric Picnic Festival since its inception; it is Ireland’s version of Glastonbury as far as I am concerned and has been a great inspiration to Latitude too. I am very excited about partnering with John and his team to become part of it”.

Electric Picnic is a three day family event that hosts a number of stages, big names, a spoken word and cookery area as well as a designated kids and family campsite. This year’s line-up is to be announced over the next few weeks. Click here for further info on Electric Picnic 2009.

Up in Norway, Hove Festival became the first festival from continental Europe to join forces with Festival Republic who are behind some of the major UK summer events like Reading, Leeds, Latitude and the mighty Glastonbury.

Hove prides itself on being the very first completely carbon neutral festival, a green ethos which seduced Melvin Benn who said: “We are very fond of the whole attitude behind the Hove Festival, in particular its environmental concerns and it’s booking profile. The surroundings are spectacular and gave us the right feeling straight away, he says. Festival Republic regards Hove as a long term investment, and we are aware of its unique status among Norwegian and even European festivals in general. We want this festival to be something more than just your ordinary music festival.”

With the organisation becoming the driving force behind the festival, Hove is looking to become one of the leading events on the European festival calendar.

Faith No More, The Killers and Slipknot headline this year’s event which will take place on Tromoya Island, just off the coast from the town of Arendal, Norway from 23-26 June.
