Sangare and Rokia Traore, who both come from Mali.
India’s Darbar Morchang
Party and Gypsies of Rajasthan are also set for the world music event alongside French artists Hindi
Zahra and Caravan Palace.
Other names from around the globe include A Filletta
(Corsica), Acetre (Spain), Andy White (Northern Ireland), Ba Cissoko (Guinea/Conakry),
Besh o droM (Hungary), and The Black Arm Band (Australia).
Dhoad Enkh
Jargal (Mongolia), Etran Finatawa (Niger), Mariem Hassan (Western Sahara), Victor
Démé (Burkina Faso) and Wang Li (China) will also play the World Of Music And Dance
festival along with UK stars Mad Professor Dub Show, Portico Quartet, RSD featuring
Joe Peng and Spiro.
Speaking about today’s announcement, festival director Chris
Smith said: "Whether you are looking for the excitement of the main stage experience or keen to discover
something new, WOMAD 2009 has some
of the very best and most exciting music from around the world. This is going to be one great festival."
The festival’s Taste The World tent is set to return which gives artists the chance to show off their cooking skills
and which often turns into an impromptu gig.
The drum n bass tent is set to return for 2009 with yoga classes and
salsa lessons as well as big names in the dance genre.
The World of Kids will have the usual comprehensive programme
of workshops, entertainment and activities being held throughout the weekend and the magnificent Children’s Parade.
WOMAD 2009 will take place at Charlton Park,
Wiltshire from 25-27 July.
