The Brighton-based band will be re-working the music for 'Man Of Aran' as well as providing the soundtrack for the
documentary 'Winged Migration'.
Elsewhere, those arriving on the Thursday (6 August) night
of the festival will be invited to come in costume or dress up on site as zombies as Film4 and Warp
Flim try to break to world record for the largest amount of zombies caught on camera.
To get people into
the mood, festival chiefs will also be showing classic zombie films through the night.
Over the rest of the festival,
Film4 will create the Dereliction Drive-In, a field of abandoned cars for Chillers to sit, roam and crash
out around. The area will also have screens showing ghostly re-mixes of imagine road movies, while car stereos will play crackled
soundtracks recorded by guest artists and DJs.
Organisers have also announced a new Film4 Cinema Tent,
which will show Dereliction Drive-In themed movies as well as classic Bollywood films.
The BFI
will also put together a programme of feature length and short films, live scores and talks. with the 40th anniversary of
the moon landing and the international year of astronomy used as inspiration.
The ICA will also
show some films including the musical travelogue 'Gypsy Caravan' and other movies from their back catalogue.
Speaking about today’s announcement, festival organiser Katrina Larkin said: "Last year
over half the chillers arrived for the festival on the Thursday, a day before the main music entertainment. So this year,
to our excitement, and following an approach from the BFI, the British Sea Power project fitted into plact for Thursday."
The Big Chill 2009 will take place at Eastnor Castle,
Herefordshire from 7-9 August with Orbital, Basement Jaxx and Pharaoh
Saunders already confirmed.
