80’s synth legends, The Human League, who are famed for hits like ‘Don’t You Want Me’, are set to top the bill on the Friday (24 July) night, while Liverpudlian indie group The Zutons, will bring Saturday (25 July) to a close.

Billy Bragg will make Wickerman his only Scottish festival date, while Dreadzone, Zion Train, UK Subs and Penetration have also been announced today.

Comedian Phil Kay is the first name confirmed for the comedy tent, with organisers also announcing the return of festival golf, a 24-hour Burnsathon, mountain biking and the traditional torching of a giant Wickerman.

Speaking about the announcement, festival organiser Helen Chambers said: "The festival team hope everyone will be as delighted with the first announcement as we are and we promise that there is much more to come with over 100 acts still to be announced."

The Wickerman Festival 2009 will take place at East Kirkcarswell Farm, near Kirkcudbright in Scotland from 24-25 July.

Tickets are already on sale priced at £80, which includes booking fee, camping and parking.
